Signs That You Have Binocular Vision Dysfunction

There are many different conditions that can affect our eyes and vision. One that isn’t well known but that is extremely common is binocular vision dysfunction, or BVD.

Our eyes are designed to work together to create a single clear image. This synchronization is essential for clear, concise vision. However, sometimes the eyes don’t work perfectly together but instead are ever so slightly out of alignment. This means that the images seen by each eye don’t match up perfectly in our brain. Many times, you can’t tell if this is happening simply by looking at someone, but it does cause a variety of symptoms that can make day-to-day life harder than it needs to be.

Is There a Treatment for Binocular Vision Dysfunction?

Fortunately, binocular vision dysfunction can be treated. There are options that have proven to be extremely effective in realigning the eyes so that the images you see converge into a single plane, enabling the brain to interpret it as a clear image.

Neurolenses are the only treatment for BVD that use microprism. By incorporating tiny amounts of microprism into glasses lenses, the way that the eyes focus on the image in front of you is altered, bringing the two images into a single, clear picture. Since every patient is different, exactly how much microprism you’ll need will depend on how severely your eyes are misaligned. Your Neurolens provider will start with a small amount of microprism and then continually adjust the amount until you reach optimal vision. At this point, patients usually report up to an 80% reduction in their symptoms.
